a facebook application concept to promote bangkok planetarium : 2011

The universe is filled with an incalculably large amount of stars, much more than you can imagine, and most of our society's knowledge came from gazing upon these stars. Pyramids, new continents, man on the Moon, Google Earth, the list goes on. It would be great if there were more astronomers and like-minded people to help us shape the future, reducing their scarcity especially in Thailand. But how can you motivate anyone to take any interest in looking above at night?

Starfacer analyzes your current profile picture on Facebook, before turning it into a constellation of existing stars and planets in the universe. You can also visit Friendtarium, a virtual planetarium, to view friend's constellations. Plus, it is possible to access information of each star such as name, position, light years, and so on.

Fun point added. At Bangkok Planetarium, tell your name on Facebook at the ticket booth to participate in a surprise at the end of the show, where every visitor's constellation can be seen in the projection hall, along with a live narration. A special leaflet containing data of these Starfacer constellations will be given at the exit.
